DESIGN DEVELOPMENT OF LITTER CONTROL SCREEN FENCING FOR SENDAFA SANITARY LANDFILL

Abstract

1. INTRODUCTION 1.1. General The Horn of Africa Regional Environment Centre and Network is in receipt of fund from City Government of Addis Ababa Solid Waste Recycling & Disposal Project office intends to apply part of the proceeds of this financing to payments under a contract for hiring a structural engineer and appointed a local Consultant, DTWINS Consulting Engineers Plc to carry out Design development of litter control screen fencing for Sendafa Sanitary Landfill. 1.2. Scope of the work In accordance with the Terms of Reference, the consultant is expected to carry out:  Design development of litter control screen fencing for Sendafa Sanitary Landfill. Design requirements include: o The fence should be able to screen flying litter effectively o Should be light and movable when required; without reconstructing the fence from scratch o Moving the fence should be compatible with the equipment available at the site o The fence structure should not interfere with the activities or movements at the Landfill o Should be structurally resistant to the high wind pressure of the area o Should include materials suggested by the employer or other materials which are locally available and affordable o Should have an effective height justified by the engineer (the engineer should be able to suggest an effective height for the fence with justifications) o The structure should have safety features.  Three different Methodologies should be suggested with justifications for the client to select.  The engineer will submit the final detailed design with details of required materials and quantities.  The engineer will follow up the construction of the litter control screen. The purpose of this report is to provide a full and detailed description of the work undertaken by the Consultant in carrying out the design of each respective task. The report is dealing with all technical aspects of the project’s review works, detailed information, investigations, results and recommendations.
